President's Day & a Sale

This week we have been busy learning about our country.  We have completed many station activities.

Even though money is not in the Common Core Kindergarten Standards, it is still an important concept that students need to learn.  President's Day is a great time to introduce money.  We practiced counting dimes by tens and pennies by ones and then we recorded our answers.

We practiced short and long vowels.  The kids had to listen for the vowel sound, record the answer and then circle whether the sound was long or short.

The kids had fun rolling a dice, crossing out that many statues and then solving the subtraction problem.

The kids looked at the bows on the White House and solved the addition problems.

We practiced letter sounds by spelling CVC words.

We reviewed counting on by recording the number on the bell, and then counting up two more numbers.

Our last station for this week practiced reading and recording sight words.

Our class had Spring Pictures today and we have a Field Trip tomorrow... the good news... it's almost Friday! :)

And, my store is 20% off today and tomorrow!

Abraham Craft and Writing

Today we learned about Abraham Lincoln.  Our school has a subscription to BrainpopJr, but even if your school does not, the video about Abraham Lincoln is free to watch.  My kids love these short videos and they are packed full of great information.  After learning about Lincoln, the kids created a craft by cutting out templates that I gave them.  Then they wrote a fact.

Here is how they turned out:
Abraham Lincoln he is tall.

Abraham Lincoln he is taller when he puts a hat on.

Abraham Lincoln freed the slaves.

Abraham Lincoln is on a 5 dollar bill.

Abraham Lincoln died because someone killed him and he is on the penny and he is tall.

George Washington

Today the kids learned about George Washington.  We watched a video on Scholastic about him.  Then, we read our Scholastic Newspapers and answered the questions at the end.  We also watched a short video on Brainpopjr.  The kids really enjoyed learning about him.  They cut out templates that I gave them to make their George craft.  Before the kids did the writing portion we discussed what we had learned, and then they wrote their favorite fact about him.

Here is a look at how they turned out.

George Washington is on a quarter.

George Washington joined the army.

George Washington was in the army.

George Washington was our first President.

George Washington, when he was five he got his first pair of britches.

And here is all of our George Washingtons together on our door.

Five for Friday

I am linking up with Doodle Bugs Teaching to share 5 random things from my week.

I only worked one day this week.  We had FOUR snow days!!

This is a picture of my house and then one of my dog, Scooter.  He is so spoiled.... not a fan of the snow.  He does not like getting his feet cold or wet.  He would much rather be curled up on the couch with his sweater on.

I enjoyed my time off from work resting, sleeping, eating, being lazy... but I did miss having Valentine's with my kids.  I guess we will party next week.

Here are a few stations that are in my Froggy's First Kiss, The Day it Rained Hearts and More Pack.

Students simply count the fairies and then record the number on the recording sheet.

This station practices beginning blends.  Students look at the pictures and record the beginning blend on the recording sheet.

I organized my Pinterest Boards Alphabetically.  You can follow me here.

Hope everyone has a really great Valentine's Day!  Looking forward to going out to eat with the hubby later!

*I will be participating in a Giveaway that will go live on February 16th.  Be sure to come back and enter!

Emergent Readers Bundle

Today I decided to bundle my emergent readers.

These readers have really helped my students learn sight words.  Normally I sell these books for a dollar each, but if you buy the bundle the books are only 50 cents each.  There are 30 books for $15.  I love making these readers to introduce new words so I will probably be adding more soon.  Grab your bundle by clicking on the picture above!
