Ocean Commotion Stations

Today I am off work for Memorial Day.  After today I only have 8 days of school left!  We have almost completed all of our work because we will have graduation and then 2 half days.  To wrap up the school year, the last unit we will be working on is an Ocean Unit.  Here is a look at some of the things we will be doing:

Adding Ten:
The students will grab a seahorse that will have a number on it.  They will add 10 to the number and then record the answer.

Unscramble the Sight Words:
There are scrambled words on coral.  There is a word bank on the recording sheet if students have difficulty unscrambling the words.

Write the Room:
For this activity I hide words around the classroom and then give the students a recording sheet and a clipboard.  They find and write the words and then read them to me.

Whale's Digraphs:
Students grab a whale card and then record the digraph.

Magic E Words:
Students pick up a fish card and then write the magic e words.

Starfish Addition:
Students select a card and then record addition problems that practice 3 addends.

I hope to add more to this unit this week.  To see this item in my store just click on the picture below.

Five for Friday

I am linking up with Doodle Bugs Teaching for Five for Friday.

This week we continued to learn about different community helpers.  I am going to share 5 of the stations we worked on this week.

Students chose a garbage man and recorded the digraph.  Some of the digraphs are at the beginning of the word and some of the digraphs are at the end of the word.

At this station, students chose a bus driver and then recorded the beginning blends.

The students counted nickels to practice counting by 5's.

They worked on writing cvc words by looking at the chef and recording the picture on him.

They also practiced adding 3 simple numbers by counting doctors, librarians and construction workers.

Have a great weekend!! :)

Community Helpers Stations & Printables

This week we started learning about Community Helpers.

My kids are becoming such great readers.  I made four of these sheets in which they practice reading simple sentences and then cut and paste the matching worker.

This coloring sheet reviews some of our tricky sight words that look similar.

We went over the following poem and then used a marker to circle sight words.

The students did really great when they cleaned up or unscrambled and wrote the words.

I used this sheet for a report card assessment.  It comes with 12 CVC words that students must cut and then glue to the matching picture.

I also used this sheet as an assessment to see if students could isolate beginning, middle, and ending sounds.

I used these two sheets to assess adding and subtracting fluently within 5.

I used this to assess "more, less, equal".

And here are a couple of stations that we did this week:

I printed nurses onto construction paper.  Each nurse has a number on her.  The student writes the number on the nurse onto the recording sheet and also records the missing number that is needed to equal up to 10.

For this math station there are addition and subtraction sentences up to 10.  The students really have to pay attention to the sign and decide if they need to make more or less.

And lastly, this is a sight word station.  You simply print the dentists and then write sight words that need work onto the dentists.  You can tape them around the room or use at a station and students find the words, record them, and then read them.

I would love to give this unit away!

Five for Friday

So glad it's Friday!  Just one more week until our Zoo field trip!

I am linking up with Doodle Bugs to share my Five for Friday.

We finished learning about Zoo animals today.

Earlier this week the kids completed a Sea Lion Sight Word Search.  They used a marker to circle the words as they found them.  After they found all of the sight words they practiced reading them to me.

The kids practiced counting in one of our Stations this week.  Students chose a zoo keeper and then recorded the number and kept counting.

Today we did "Roll the Dice" during Stations.  The kids had a little trouble with this one.  It's funny how you think some things will be so easy for them and they struggle and then sometimes when you expect something to be challenging they get it right away!  I guess we just need more practice.  They had fun and eventually figured it out!  All they had to do was roll the dice and then either write the number they rolled or draw dots to show the number that was rolled.  After rolling the dice they had to add the numbers together and write the answer.

 Camouflage Sight Words:
The kids really loved this station.  They used magnifying glasses to search for camouflaged words on the zebras.

Monkey Money:
This was also a little challenging for the kids, but it was good practice.  Some of them got it right away and some struggled to remember if they needed to count by 1s, 5s, or 10s.

Thank you for stopping by!
